my mission

My overarching mission is to make high quality Pilates instruction inclusive, accessible and easy to find in order to help vitalize people’s lives; To use Pilates to make a greater impact on the health and wellness of more than just my inner circle of clients and colleagues.

I believe that introducing more people to the deeply healing and life changing benefits of Pilates has the power to completely transform our society.

I believe the best way to get more people practicing Pilates is to raise the bar of professionalism for our industry and therefore Pilates teachers.

I want teaching Pilates to be a career path that is respected and allows for sustainable income, where Pilates teachers not only survive, but thrive,  and I believe that that responsibility is on us as teachers to be worthy of, and demand such respect.

Here at Terriell Samuels Pilates, my  values are my north star in everything that I do from teaching a group class to marketing on social media.

I strive to lead and communicate with my values first. I put people first over profits in order to create and grow a sustainable business for myself that allows me to give back to and serve my community in meaningful ways.

my values

01 Community

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that being a part of a community — being a part of something bigger than yourself — is so necessary to both personal and professional growth. My community is supportive and accessible to all. It values collaboration over competition with other professionals in the industry. It is a safe space for individuals to cultivate their Pilates practice and teaching practice.

02 Generosity

Teaching Pilates is a career of service. My goal each day is to serve my clients in a way that is nurturing and helps them feel their best. I am generous with my knowledge, experiences, feedback, and ability to hold space for others. I do not gate-keep information about the Pilates method, its exercises or history. I have a giving mentality, and live and work generously, knowing that what I put out into the world will come back tenfold. That said, I also value…

03 Meaningful Boundaries

No one works well when overtaxed on time and energy. I will always address your concerns with respect to our mutual capacities, setting clear expectations for when I am available to you both in communication scheduling, and scope of work. I will work collaboratively with clients to develop reasonable and respectful time-lines for our success.

04 Growth and Learning

My work is never done as a movement educator and mentor. I am a lifelong student of Pilates, and I am constantly looking for better practices in all aspects of my business. I proactively seek out educational opportunities and welcome new information into my teaching weather it be evidence-based, informed by clinical observation, or through personal experience. I believe that personal and professional development go hand and hand, and I address them both equally.

05 Professionalism

Teaching Pilates will rise into a career path that is respected and allows for sustainable income, where Pilates teachers not only survive, but thrive. I believe that that responsibility is on us as teachers, business owners, and job creators to be worthy of, and demand such respect. Together we will continue to elevate our industry through the personal responsibility of elevating ourselves and our businesses.

06 Impact

Wellness belongs to everyone, and while Pilates is amazing, it can’t do it all. I aim to use Pilates to make a greater impact on the health and wellness of more than just my inner circle of clients and colleagues. A portion of my company’s profits are donated quarterly to various organizations that support health and wellness initiatives in marginalized communities.

07 Accessibility and Inclusivity

My ultimate mission at Terriell Samuels Pilates is to make high quality Pilates instruction accessible and easy to find - no matter your location, experience, ability, size, identity, or financial constraints. I will strive to make tangible efforts toward that end, including providing scholarships to programs for those in need, adopting accessibility practices in my content, and adding to my toolkit as a teacher to effectively teach all types of bodies (this is not a comprehensive list).

I recognize that living in and exercising in a marginalized body is inherently radical and political. Terriell Samuels Pilates is a feminist organization. It is inclusive to the trans and queer community. It is actively anti-racist. I am committed to welcoming and supporting a diverse community here in my own spaces, and I will also work to speak for members of our larger Pilates community. Everyone is welcome —no matter how you identify.

I also fully support the autonomy of the individual and believe that individuals can (and should) make choices concerning their own bodies, and by extension, their own movement and exercise.

08 Anti- Racism

Black lives matter. Period. my company is committed to the messy, hard and ongoing work of becoming and being an anti-racist company.

We value progress, and we know progress cannot happen if crippled by perfectionism.

We will do our best to create and foster an inclusive and equitable atmosphere in my community and and we expect members to do the same. We welcome any and all feedback related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

We have a zero tolerance for blatant discriminatory or exclusionary behavior or speech in our events, classes, programs, on our online community platform, or anywhere else our community engages. We will call members in if we notice micro-aggressions and missteps, and if we see fit, we reserve the right to uninvite a member from the community, revoking their access. No refunds or partial refunds will be given for rescinding access for this reason.
